Hope they crumble further in the Championship!

Both sides cancelled out each other as Ronaldo’s effort hit the near post when he cut in from the right beating two defenders while Ben Foster saved two shots by Aaron Lennon and Darren Bent in normal time.

It was time for penalties and Foster saved O’Hara’s spot-kick before pressuring Bentley to shoot wide giving Anderson the chance to score the winning penalty.

With that match-winning performance, it is hardly a surprise that the goalkeeper won the man-of-the-match award. A good start for a United member who so long have been patient waiting in the wings of van der Sar and Tomas Kuszczak. I was surprised that Sir Alex Ferguson made the Polish international sit on the bench while the ‘third-choice’ played. The old guy proved me wrong and went on to win the cup.

Alex pleased the crowd on ice

I caught NHL All-Star Skill competition on Super Sports just now and I caught the best moment in NHL history. Alex Ovechkin wearing a hat and playing with two sticks for his last shot in the Breakaway Challenge. A whopping over forty percent vote went to him though I think Martin St. Louis’ effort was good with his airhook skill similar to floorball. Full story here.

Zdeno Chara is another great player to watch as he smashed the previous record for the Hardest-shot Challenge. 105.4mph shot and I was staring at the telly like this o_O! His cause is much respected as he is raising money for ‘Right to Play‘ fund. Full story.

Makes me want to go to Montreal more to watch the Canadiens play!

I am a fan of Manchester United and in this article, I am not going to make fun of Liverpool. I am neutral when it comes to football strategies and off-field issues. Even my father and best-friend, Jeremy Dee, are Pool fans.

With Torres out injured for four further weeks, Rafa Benitez will have to select between Robbie Keane, Dirk Kuyt, David N’Gog and Krisztian Nemeth. My manager and colleagues have been asking themselves why Keane is not justifying his £20m move to Anfield. We roughly know that he can be deployed as a wing-forward and he likes to run for the ball. I first read about him back in 1999 when he was playing for Wolves. Seeing him play for Coventry convinced me that he can be a hit in the Premier League. He got speed and finishing. Perfect for any top EPL clubs, I thought.

Well, when Liverpool bought Torres, I thought they could finish the season as champions. To my delight, United managed to defend their title. Then, the purchase of the Irish. I think again, to feature him with Torres together, Keane must supply the ball more to the Spaniard. It should be a devastating partnership but with the strikers shooting blanks, fans and pundits alike are scratching their heads.

I say, they should play 4-4-1-1 with Gerrard behind him and have Babel back in the squad to provide penetration from the flanks. I do not see a problem with the central midfield and defence because to me, they a deemed solid.

We are unfair if we were to say Robbie Keane is the worst buy, as stated by Telegraph. It should be the teammates to help him. This is different from Diego Forlan’s case at Old Trafford.

Then, the one shot that changed it all. An NUS forward just made a wild shot which would have been comfortable for me to save but it was deflected by my team-mate. Its trajectory changed and and I had to struggle hard to cope for the unexpected scenario. I was fraction of a second late. By the time my palm went up, the net rippled behind me, sending the scorer and his team-mates in ecstasy. Dejected, thoughts started running through my mind, “S**t, the team is not all prepared for the shoot-out.” Two more comfortable saves and the game was tied, leaving us to settle the relegation play-offs with the shoot-out. While I saved two penalties and allowed one, my shooters missed all. All the preparation and sweat to help the team fight another year gone down the drain.

The same month next year, I was in the similar position. Leading 2-0 in the first two periods, my team was defending against a female squad led by Jill Quek. My last roller-hockey game ended 6-5 in favour of the ladies. I still ponder how I let a shot slip through my catcher for the equalising goal.

My stories aside, the nightmare came back to haunt me but I was not playing in any match. I was watching the Czechs defending their two-goal lead against the Turks. Fatih Terim was adding more attacking players in search for an equaliser. Turkey pulled one back and this time, things were getting desperate for Czech Republic. If I were to be in the opposing coach’s shoes, I too would have opted for a 5-4-1 (sweeper) tactic. Then came the moment that nobody expected, Petr Cech failed to catch a cross cleanly allowing Nihat Kahveci to sidefoot the ball home. The third goal was pure class by the Turkish skipper.

Now, let us look at Turkey. They were relentless, aggressive and they created chance after chance. They even told nervous players to relax, keep their cool and think straight. Such gestures even baffled me because as a player, I too tend to do things on my own without much thinking in search for the equaliser (is that why I was only given the captain’s armband in my last year of Sunday League back in 2001?). Their effort was rewarded via Cech’s mistake and they duly accepted.

This quote, “Fortune favours the brave,” came from the commentator and how true it was. It made me reflect why I experienced triumph (six times) and dejection (three times). When we are down, we dig deep in our reserve to turn the tables.

So, when you are down, be aggressive and concentrate hard. If you are lucky, you might go ahead to win it.

I seriously think there is no point in attacking Petr Cech for his blunder. Except for Fabian Barthez.

Much much clearer than anything that was streamed. We could actually see the ball! Also, Chelsea have their names in small letters on their jerseys.

The match was totally worth it going to my 10.30am class half-dead.

Bolton is having a good form lately and they might prove harder opponents for Chelsea. Even with a win, Chelsea needs to score double digits to beat United’s goal difference.

Hopefully, like I said, it will be a beginning of an era.

Philadelphia have scored through Umberger and Dowd before Montreal equalised in the second period with Kostitsyn (missed a penalty shot earlier) and Kovalev.

Lupul scored a powerplay goal and with twenty-eight seconds remaining, Kovalev equalised with a powerplay goal; and from what I heard, it was a six on four.  So,  the game went to an overtime.

The overtime lasted only forty-eight seconds when Kostopolous scored to earn the win.

I tried watching the game here but was not patient with the clips in between the game.
